These are the rules of our site. Please read them in their entirety BEFORE you submit a character application. Some points in the rules will be helpful in the character department, and you'll find a hidden code phrase you will need in order to complete the approval process.
You will not be able to get your first character approved for play if you do not pay attention to the rules.
1. Register with a valid email address.
This site requires that your account be activated. Part of activation means a verification email will be sent to the email address provided. If you do not activate your account, you will not be able to play.
If you don't receive your activation make sure you check your junk mail or spam folder for it. There is a link to resend your activation if needed, you can find that when you attempt to log into your account. If you are having trouble with an activation, let someone know. You can do this via the CBox if you need to.
We can not be responsible if you fail to receive an important announcement, such as activity checks, if you use an email that you do not check. Accounts may be deleted due to missed activity checks. If your email is not valid, that's on you.
2. If you create more than one character, create a separate account for each character.
Each separate character you play should have its own account to prevent confusion in posting. You may use the same email when registering multiple accounts, as long as that email address is valid. If you don't want to receive duplicate emails from SU 2, you may Opt-Out of receiving mass emails in your user profile. If you're not sure how to do that, contact an administrator and we'll help you out.
3. Don't join and ditch.
If you join our community, it should be because you've reviewed the site and think you'll have fun writing here. Please don't join just to advertise or swipe some members for your own board. That's not cool.
1. Respect the staff.
This is pretty self-explanatory, but please don't argue with the staff, bash us, harrass us, or anything like that. We're here to help you and ensure everyone on the board has as much fun as possible. Of course, you can come to us with any questions or concerns you have, but please don't cop attitude with us or rant at us. We like to think we're approachable and understanding and patient to a point, but we will not tolerate disrespect. Do not harrass us about your character application. Do not cuss us out in the cbox. Do not rant and rave at us via PM or IM.
2. Respect each other.
We want this to be a fun experience for everyone, so please don't be a jerk. If you need further elaboriation on what it means to be a jerk, here you go:
- No bashing - to bash is to attack or assault (name calling, excessive swearing, etc.)
- No bullying - to bully is to bash repeatedly in various ways.
- No OOC fighting - OOC means out of character. Don't fight out of character.
- No crafty IC fighting that's really OOC fighting - You know, when you have your character shove another character because you're annoyed at the other character's player.
You get the idea. Be nice or be banned, yo.
Keep the Golden Rule in mind: treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself.
3. This site is rated PG-13. Please keep that in mind as you post.
We're not going to be rating hounds, but according to the ProBoards Terms of Service, you must be at least 13 years old to join the site. The show this RP is based on deals with mature subject matter such as horror, violence, sexual situations, and swearing. Therefore, those things may be present on the board. If content in your thread goes beyond the general PG-13 rating, please put a warning in your subject or in the beginning post of the thread.
4. No stealing or plagiarizing.
If you use information from another source, you must cite the source and give credit to them. Example, using Wikipedia or IMDB, etc.
Direct copy and paste of your character's application, history and what not, from one of these sources will not be accepted. You can use them for reference and quote pieces, but you need to write your application yourself.
It is not cool to copy a post or character application that belongs to someone else – ether from this board or another one – and claim it as your own. This is called stealing.
Do not use signature graphics that someone else made unless they gave you permission to use them.
5. Please be active and post regularly, particularly if you play a canon character.
Keep in mind posting in the OOC sections and chatting in the cbox does not mean you're actively posting. You have to post IC (in character) posts in order to be considered active. Some people like to rapid fire post back and forth, RP'ing out a thread in one sitting. Other people only have a chance to post once a day or possibly only a few times a week. Try to find RP partners who post at the same pace you do. Activity checks will be done as needed to keep all the site information up to date.
Characters Currently Banned: (these are character types we are currently not accepting).
- Horsemen
- Archangels
- Gods
- Level 2 Infected Croats
- Non-Canon Yellow-Eyed Demons
- Non-Canon Special Children
DO NOT APPLY FOR A BANNED SPECIES UNLESS YOU HAVE SPECIFIC PERMISSION FROM THE STAFF TO DO SO.
Deceased Characters: Keep in mind that we are playing in an alternate timeline and not all characters who have died in the show as of now have died in our universe. However, if you want to play a character who's been killed on the show, contact an administrator with your idea of how to bring them in.
1. Submit an application if you want to play a character here.
Yes, they’re a pain in the ass. We’re well aware because, as you can see, we filled them out, too. But, before you start running around doing whatever it is you do, you need to submit an application and be approved by a staff member.
2. DO NOT post in character if your character hasn't been approved.
It’s rude, and it annoys us. Plus, it’s unfair and totally defeats the purpose of submitting an application in the first place.
3. DO NOT bitch at us in the cbox about your application.
This does not include asking about the status of an application, or talking about an application. That’s all fine. When I say ‘bitching at us’ I mean bashing us for not approving your application right away, or getting testy about the changes we may have asked you to make. If you have a problem with how we’re going about the application process, shoot us a PM. Disrespecting the staff publicly in the cbox repeatedly is a sure-fire way to get you banned without warning.
4. If your character has powers or abilities, you must list them.
In case all the text didn’t throw you off, this is not a video game. We’re not trying to surprise our fellow players by pulling random powers out of our asses when we feel like it. If you refuse to list your character’s powers, we won’t approve the application. If you want to add or change your character’s powers later, let us admin-types know. It’s definitely do-able.
5. Your character's not perfect.
Even though this is a fictional setting or whatever, your character should still be believable. No one is perfect. Every character has strengths and weaknesses, and everyone has flaws. And having a scar somewhere does not count as a flaw. Having a scar because your father used to beat you and now you have violent tendencies and can’t get close to anyone? THAT is a flaw. If you’re having trouble figuring out your character’s flaws, let one of us know and we’ll try to help you out.
6. No carbon copy characters.
Don’t come in here with a character named Dan Wesson who drives an Impala, listens to nothing but Metallica and AC/DC, and says “son of a bitch” like he gets paid for it and expect to be approved. Copying someone else’s character isn’t cool. This includes original characters!
7. Don't come here looking for the man, woman, or creature of your dreams.
You want to pair up your character? Great. Good for you. But, please don’t jump in here and immediately pounce on someone asking for a relationship. It’s rude, and, like a real relationship, something like that should develop naturally for you and whoever else you’re writing with. Plus, you never know who’s dating who here, so you might get bitch-slapped.
8. Your character is not all-knowing.
Your character can’t walk into a room and know immediately what everyone in the room is and what side they’re on. Just because you, as a player, know these things out of character, that doesn’t mean your character can ‘just know’ everything. If your character is a psychic with some sort of power that allows this and has been approved, that’s allowed to an extent, but if you’re just a vampire with a really good sense of smell, that’s not gonna fly.
9. Your character should react to what's happening around them.
No one is totally unfazed by everything. If your character is sitting in a room watching TV and some big bad ugly busts down the door, they shouldn’t just sit there casually going, “Oh, look. A serial killer,” and go back to watching 90210. Even if they’re not afraid, there must be something they’re feeling.
10. Know who you're dealing with.
If you’re threading with someone, make sure you know a little about their character. It’s kind of awkward if you’re, say, a werewolf, and reply to a werewolf hunter without knowing they’re a werewolf hunter. Do yourself a favor and go read someone’s application before you RP with their character so you have an idea of what to expect.
11. Face claims should be of human celebrity, and one celebrity may not represent more than one character.
If your desired claim is taken, you weill have to choose another one. All canon faceclaims are reserved and cannot be used for an original character. The only exceptions are very minor canons who have only made an appearance in one episode.
12. your avatars must be 100 x 100 pixels.
Avatars must be of your chosen face claim, and may be smaller than 100 x 100 pixels, but may not be larger. If your avatar is not properly sized and stretches the board, it will be removed.
13. Do not submit a character from another movie or show.
This is not a crossover RP, so characters from other fandoms will be denied. We don't want Buffy the vampire slayer, Blade, or Lestat up in here. However, we may allow characters based on mythology or urban legends on a case by case basis.
1. No god-modding or power playing.
Do not move or otherwise manipulate a character that is being played by someone else. If you must do this because there's a fight going on or something, communicate with your RP partner to set up boundaries you're both comfortable with. If your character has some sort of ability that allows for some god-modding, such as telekinesis or mind control, it's very important that you don't abuse that power. The admin giveth, the admin may taketh away.
2. You can't pull a machine gun out of your back pocket.
We understand that some characters would logically have various weapons on their person that they can whip out as needed: small handguns, knives, holy water, etc. However, there’s a difference between getting attacked by a demon and whipping out a knife and whipping out something like a machete or a shotgun. A good way to figure out if something’s a reasonable weapon to pull out of nowhere is to ask yourself if it would have been possible for your character to have it on their person without the other character seeing it. A bottle of holy water could easily be stored in a coat pocket while a machete would be hard to conceal, so it wouldn’t be fair to suddenly say “and then Dean pulled out his machete” without giving another character a chance to notice he has one.
3. Do not write in chat speak.
2 b sure psts r clr nd rdbl 4 evry1 plz dnt use cht spk. kthxbye.
See what I did there? That's chat speak, and it's totally fine to use in a text or an IM or whatever. It is not okay to write a post in chat speak. If your character is sending a text message, you can write that piece of the post in chat speak, but please don't adopt it as your writing style. People won't post with you if they don't know what the hell you're typing.
4. For the love of pie, proofread!
Before you click that magic "post" button, do us all a favor and run your post through a spellcheck and read it over at least once to check for mistakes. We are a literate RP, which means we expect your writing to be of decent quality. This does not mean you're not allowed to make mistakes, but if people have trouble deciphering the hyroglyphics that are your posts, you're going to have trouble finding RP partners.
5. No one-liner posts.
We are not a chat RP. We understand it's not always possible or necessary to write a post that's paragraphs and paragraphs long, but at least try for 100 to 200 words. Anything shorter than that doesn't give your fellow RP'ers much to work with when they reply to you. There's a word counter at the bottom of the text entry block you post in. Utilize it!
6. Make sure your post is readable!
We understand that different people have different fonts and styles they like to post in, but it is more important for your posts to be readable than it is for them to be "pretty." For example, it might seem like a good idea to do something like this:
and double-blockquote your text as well as make it size one font and make it a fancier font, and maybe you don't like to put,you know, spaces between, like, commas. And periods.
Sure, it might look different and maybe some of you think it looks pretty, but it's kind of hard to read, right? You will not be penalized for doing things like thi, but it does make it hard to post with you if your RP partner can't read what you wrote.
1. Signatures can be no larger than 500 pixels wide by 300 pixels tall.
Any signatures that stretch the board because they're too big will be removed.
2. Avatars can be no larger than 100 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall.
Any avatars that stretch the board because they're too big will be removed.
3. Do not post photos, videos, or graphics that are wider than 500 pixels.
Any graphics that are wider than 500 pixels will distort and stretch the board. If something you're posting is too wide, please post a link to it rather than directly posting or embedding it. Any graphics that stretch the board will be removed.
4. No hot linking graphics!
Hot linking is finding a picture through Google or something and pasting the URL directly from there to post it as an image. This is actually not cool and is stealing bandwidth from other people.
You need to host your own graphics on a hosting site (they are free) like Tinypic.com, photobucket, or imageshack, etc.
Hot linking leads to bandwidth issues for the original host. Also, some sites have it set up so that you can't see the image if it is hot linked. Plus, if the original site moves the image, it will break your link and you can't see the image.
Continual abuse of hot linking will be grounds for punitive actions. It really isn't cool to hotlink images from other sites. It's very simple to find the image and save it to your own hosting service. So, there really is no excuse for it.
If you’ve never used a photo hosting site before, let us know and we can help you out.
5. Give credit for graphics you didn't make yourself.
If you use a graphic, for example a signature, that was not made by you, please credit the creator. This does NOT apply to standard photographs or Icon/Avatars that are available for use. Mainly for signatures or anything that is obviously "photoshopped" to create a signature or banner or other graphic along those lines.
1. No Advertising.
If you own or know of another site you want to share, fine. Whatever. The cbox is not the place. Take a hike over to the Advertisement board in the Out of Character section for that.
Posting links to photos and videos is fine as long as they’re not so inappropriate they make me cringe. This means no porn, and if there’s a crap ton of swearing, give us a heads up.
2. No spoilers in the cbox.
You have no way of knowing who has seen or read all the SPN stuff you have. You also can't assume everyone wants to be told all that you know. DO NOT post spoilers in the cbox.
3. Do not chat in character until your application has been approved by a staff member.
We know it's a lot of fun to chat in character, but it does get confusing if your application ends up under-going character-altering changes while you're editing your application, and you're having to account for that in the cbox. It also gets a bit dicey if you're having your character use powers we haven't approved yet.
4. Don't go overboard role playing in the cbox.
We all know how much fun it can be to chat in character, but the cbox is not the place for over-the-top role-play. This is another rule we didn’t want to have to make, but again, people get carried away with their characters, so, here it is. No intensive RP’ing in the cbox. This includes serious story-like scenarios, over-dramatic scenes, and intense romantic relationships. Again, the cbox is guest friendly and this kind of thing makes people feel uncomfortable and left out.
5. The cbox is not a replacement for message board RP.
If something hasn’t been played out on the boards, don’t play it out in the cbox. If you see your storyline going a certain way, fine. But if it hasn’t been played out anywhere for us to see, it makes no sense for it to randomly be played out in the cbox. It’s confusing, it’s rude, and, seriously, annoying as hell. Don’t do it.
6. Don't take over the cbox and exclude others from the chat.
The chat box is here so everyone can chat. If there are only two people in there, well, it’s kind of impossible not to get wrapped up talking to each other. But don’t get so intense with it that other people can’t join in. That’s obnoxious.
7. Don't argue in the cbox.
If you’re having a problem with someone in the chatbox, take it to PM’s or IM’s please. We don’t want to hear your B.S.
And please keep in character arguing or fighting to a minimum. Just because your character may dislike another one, or may be bitchy by nature, that doesn’t give you the right to argue with someone and pull the “but I’m in character so it’s okay” card. It’s the chat box, not an episode of The Bad Girls Club.
8. Do not disrespect the staff in the cbox.
If you have a problem with one of us, send us a PM. Don't start crap with us in the chat, and don't talk crap about us in the chat. It's not cool.
9. If you are spoken to repeatedly about your cbox behavior, we may ban you from the cbox temporarily or permanently.
If you violate any of these rules, you will be spoken to by a staff member. This could be an administrator, a board moderator, or a cbox moderator. A staff member may address you directly in the cbox, send you a PM, or IM you if you have provided them with a screenname in the past. Whether you are spoken to about your cbox behavior publicly (in the cbox) or privately (via PM or IM), no matter how informal the conversation may seem, it counts as a warning.
If after you are warned you continue to violate the cbox rules, or you become disrespectful, you will be banned from the cbox. Depending on how offensive/disrespectful your violation is and how many times we've talked to you, the length of the ban will vary and we will decide on a case by case basis how long an individual's ban will be. If you are a registered member, you will receive a PM if you are banned from the cbox explaining why and for how long. The ban would be for something like a few hours or a few days, so it wouldn't be permanent, and again, would depend on how many times we talked to you and what your offense was. Once you've read this rule, PM the following phrase to Ash: "Are we really gonna kill this teddy bear?" If you have any questions about this rule, contact a staff member.
If you violate any of these rules repeatedly, we'll ban you. No joke.
We reserve the right to remove, amend, or alter these rules at any point.
Thank you, and have a nice apocalypse.
